Our Story.

Avenue Church began in September 2014 in response to God’s love and his “Great Commission” – to be apprentices of Jesus and to invite others to apprentice with him as well. Before Avenue Church began, God gathered a ragtag bunch of people of all different backgrounds and all with unique stories. There was one thing that united us together though – our belief that God’s love expressed in Jesus is real and transforms the lives of individuals and entire communities. Sensing a call to be part of a particular community, many of us moved into or near the Alberta Avenue neighbourhood. We have been on an amazing journey of discovery since. We are so delighted and humbled to be welcomed into this neighbourhood. Our neighbours have loved and blessed us as we learn to be a blessing to them. We are thrilled to be rooted in such a colourful and diverse neighbourhood as we discover what it means to be a church community for all to belong in and to serve with as we continue on this journey of apprenticeship with Jesus.

After 2 1/2 years of gathering to worship on 118 Avenue, God led us from the commercial heart of the district and into the Parkdale neighbourhood where we gathered for worship at the Parkdale Cromdale Community League.

Three years later, God has brought us back to the Alberta Avenue neighbourhood. As of October 2020, we are thrilled to be gathering at St. Faith’s Anglican Church, now known as Lodgepole Communitas, where we are looking forward to not only sharing a worship space but seeking God’s opportunities for us to further share in God’s kingdom work.
