The Good News According To John: Truth?  What’s that? - John 18:36-38a, 8:30-47, 14:6

Truth.  We instinctively want to know the truth and be aligned with the truth.  But ‘’the truth” is often difficult to pin down.  “Everything we hear is an opinion, not a fact.  Everything we see is a perspective, not a truth,” said Marcus Aurelius.  This is a common perspective.  Is it the truth?  Who’s to say?

In the gospel of John the ‘truth’ of Jesus’ identity and purpose is controversial.  There are different perspectives.  Some say he’s the promised Messiah while others say he’s demon possessed.  John, the gospel writer, testifies that Jesus himself said “I am the way the truth and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through me.”  Is there a way for us to know whether this is arrogance on Jesus part or a truth that gives life and hope?
