Church as Agent of Reconciliation: 2 Cor 5:17-21

Paul in 2 Corinthians 5:18-19 says that God reconciled the world to himself through Christ and gave us (the church) the ministry of reconciliation.  This is what the church is called to but has frequently failed to accomplish.  What do we do with the knowledge that the church has so frequently caused injustice and brokenness rather than reconciliation?
